Bloomsburg Baseball Falls to Coker College

HARTSVILLE, SC--The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Coker College on Wednesday by scores of 7-3 and 6-5.
In the opener, the Huskies trailed 4-0 through four innings when it broke through for a run on an RBI single by Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) scoring Carlos Medina (Lititz/Manheim Twp). After Coker got the run back in the home half of the fifth, the Huskies make it a 5-3 game with a pair of runs in the sixth. Matt Allen tripled home a run, then, came in to score himself on a single by Billy Philllips (Shohola/Delaware Valley). Coker again responded with two runs and pulled out the 7-3 win.
Mike Griggs (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) took the loss for Bloomsburg, allowing five runs on eight hits, with four strike outs in five innings. At the plate for the Huskies, Donofry was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Phillips was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Rich Letts (Parkesburg/Octorara) was 2-for-2 with a run scored and Matt Allen (DuBoistown/South Williamsport) was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI.
In the nightcap, Bloomsburg led 5-4 going to the bottom of the seventh, but the Cobras rallied and pulled out a 6-5 win. Trailing 2-0 going to the top of the third, the Huskies tied the game with a pair of runs. Anthony Forman (Richboro/Council Rock South) led off with a double and scored on a single by Donofry. Later in the inning, Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) singled home Donofry knotting the game at 2-2.
Coker rallied and led 4-2 going to the fifth inning when Bloomsburg came back yet again. Allen tripled home Letts with one run, then, scored on a single by Medina tying the score at 4-4. In the top of the sixth the Huskies took the lead when Forman tripled and Donofry brought him home with a single for a 5-4 lead setting up the late inning heroics for the home team.
For Bloomsburg, Donofry was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Medina was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Allen and Ward were each 1-for-4 with an RBI, with Allen hitting a triple and scoring a run.
Bloomsburg, now 2-11, will play a single nine-inning game with Coker starting at 1 p.m.
